The frisky four begs to be pegged to the redline when accelerating out of the corner and it only comes alive above 4000rpm. However, as nice as the stereo system is, I am changing it out leaving the Bose speakers for a Pioneer that has navigation, rear view camera and that uses Bluetooth to play songs from my phone. The 6-speed automatic is available across the board, but the retractable hardtop is not offered with the Sport. Had to re-learn shift points for a 6-speed. Make it light, make it nimble, make it responsive and what would you expect? The Miata is a benchmark for the definition of agile and quick. Haven't had the top down yet rain and snow are not conducive.

Too much over 180cm and you might have a problem with your head, but your legs won't be too long.
The Suspension Package standard on Club is optional on the Grand Touring. Gas mileage good but not outstanding. There are choices for a six-speed manual or automatic but this specific Miata tester came properly equipped with the third pedal. And once the track dried up, it also produced impressive amounts of grip in the corners, despite having quite a lot of body roll. The Appearance Package includes the front air dam and rear underskirt and is standard on the Club. The Convenience Package remote keyless entry, cruise control, power door locks and other items is standard on Club and Grand Touring. I wear size 14 shoes, and I trend toward work boots.

You really do experience the world in a different way in a drop-top sports car. But keep the options modest and the Miata still remains to be part of the epitome of affordable and livable thrills. Since the outgoing Miata is no more than three inches longer, two inches wider, and an inch taller over the original, the Miata maintains the same microscopic footprint as an amoeba. Handling is just as dialed in, making this an ideal companion for wind-blown jaunts down winding canyon roads. Somewhat surprisingly, the trunk offers decent space for a reasonable amount of luggage or a few grocery bags. Operating either the soft or hard top is an exercise in simplicity, and each may be raised or lowered in just a few moments with little effort. You could say that it's just the Japanese manufacturer resting on its laurels, pointing to healthy sales as reason enough to leave it alone.

Otherwise, top down, the Miata Grand Touring with the folding hardtop is as indistinguishable from other Miatas. But matched to the 2,400-lb Miata, the power is just right. I'm fascinated by transportation, and by what our means of transportation says about who we are. You can choose how aggressively the shifts must come, tapping the throttle to match revs before shifting, even dancing heel-toe maneuvers on downshifts if you choose, or you can keep the revs low and short-shift without lugging the willing engine. The design has since become euro-centric, which means more angles and less curves for a very clean appearance.
