I liked it so much I went out and bought another one like it but was a 2001. It's been a reasonable off-road performer, covering nearly 10,000 on sand, rocks, trails, and dirt roads. Need to know how to remove int door panel to get to motor, etc. There is a special fork tool to get on the plastic anchors and pop them out. Visibility on road and off-road is excellent. Even the third row is acceptable for children up to about 10 years old, but no place for an adult.
Pretty good gas mileage, we get about 18 mpg. This is for 99 they should be the same 1 Remove Triangle Shaped Trim Piece On Inside Of Door Where Outside Mirror is. Did you bother to check the switch? I added genuine wood overlay to add a little color to the inside of the vehicle, which was monotonous gray. I would recommend this car to anyone. Only brakes ,tires, sparkplugs and a ingition coil. Are special tools helpful or required or are other methods used for removing these panels? The brakes are soft and need more bite. The vehicle has been pretty reliable, though the ignition pack for one of the plugs failed at 73,000. It averaged 16-17 in combined driving. . I especially appreciate the three-position bench seat recline feature, which is wonderful.
Overall fit is pretty poor: inch-wide gaps between dash trim and side trim, ultra-cheap interior door handles. Love the interior with third row seating, comfortable, and has been very reliable hauling our family of 6 around. The controls are all well-placed. The stock interior seats are very supportive and comfortable. The stereo is fine, but could use a sub-woofer. It now has over 225,000 miles and still has the original engine, transmission, etc. No magor repairs in 260000 mi.
The stock underbody protection has held up very well. Three screws at bottom of panel, then remove the grab handle, pop all anchors, lift up on panel to release it from top of the door. It is 4x4 and still works fine. Mine needed to be pressed hard on the front edge of the switch to get it to roll up, eventually it stopped altogether. The engine feels under-powered even though the nominal output at high revs is 260hp.
It was bough with 33000 mi. The truck in stock condition was too bouncy and the steering was very light. I had to replace mine at 8,000 miles, and Ford parts told me it's very common, so they keep many in stock. Interestingly, on long trips it's 13mpg regardless of whether there are 7 people plus a full load of gear, or just one person traveling light. These are a real issue on Fords.
Gas mileage was fair for a full size 4. Fuel economy on long trips averages around 13mpg while around town 10mpg is typical. This is the most favorite vehicle that I have ever owned. Pull From Top, Then Lift Up. In addition I added a winch plus huge driving lights.
